Hailing from Sarawak on the island of Borneo, C. auriculata is a small species with thick, ovate leaves about 6-7 cm long and 4 cm broad. What little is written about the plant notes that it grows between stones in small rivers where the water current is likely to be strong during the wet season.
C. auriculata produces a short pale inflorescence with a blackish limb and purplish red throat. Non flowering plants can be recognised by their stiff leaves that have a distinctive silvery tinge with dark markings. The plant has been reported from blackwater streams, so cultivation in an acidic substrate is suggested. A candidate for growers with dedication and skill, it is not regarded as an easy subject, with Jan Bastmeijer noting a tendency to fade away after some time.
